College isn’t the only path to success in life, but it certainly makes success easier to obtain. In my freshman dorm alone, I was across the hall from the daughter of a billionaire who partially owns the Los Angeles Lakers and LA Times, an Olympian, future surgeons, and CEOs.

Further, I was lucky enough to be able to study abroad twice (once in Australia and once on a sailing voyage across the Pacific Ocean).

• In Australia, there were other schools that had similar study abroad programs and curriculums (eg. the UC system), but for the Stanford students, we had longer lab times, better food, better housing, better everything.

• During the sailing voyage, Stanford worked with S.E.A which normally combines students from all over the world and crams them into one boat. Stanford has been able to negotiate having our OWN boat (pictured above). This is a $1 million+ tall-ship and we had it all to ourselves.

The caliber of Stanford, Harvard, top 5 schools is incomparable. They have billions of dollars in endowments and DO NOT make their money through tuition. They get most of their revenue through research and licensing so they do everything they can to make YOU successful. Because of this, tuition cost should not be considered. Even if you don’t have straight As (I was a B student), if you are talented, you SHOULD apply and do WHATEVER you can to get in.
